Holy Moly...

I just looked at the date and realized that it's been forever since I have posted. Apologies... Apologies... We've been ridiculously busy as I mentioned in my previous post... Like always, we'll get through all our activities, but we are very much looking forward to life slowing down a bit...

My brain is going nuts on what all I need to chat about... Top priority is a request. A dear friend of mine's father is fighting cancer. After being recently moved into Hospice, my heart aches for her and her family. I don't understand life sometimes... I don't understand why people have to go through so much hurt and struggle. Faith is important and I know that without that, we couldn't survive, but still... Hate the hard times. Especially, for the good ones. Please add them to your list. They need all the prayers they can get right now.

It's my husband's birthday on Sunday... The big 3-0. I wish we could say we were doing something fancy and creative but I'd be lying. We had chatted a million times about what to do but in the end, our super spicy plans got replaced with showers, weddings, bachelor trips/parties, school events, babies being born ... aka: life. In the end, my husband seems fine with celebrating low-key style in the 'burbs'. Here is something to think about... When Dan turns 30, we will have been together for half of his life... Let me clarify, he kissed me for the first time at age 15... Try that on for size...

His Aunty Lindsey playing 'babies' earlier this week... Not quit sure why we are in to 'babies' right now seeing that no one in this household has a baby, is carrying a baby, talks baby, etc... I'll go ahead and thank the girls in his class at school for this new found hobby.

Mason had his first dentist appointment recently. He was a champ... Cute kiddo.

Is it really Monday? The weekend flew by... I can hardly remember half of it.

It's almost February... the month of love. {And my love's 30th birthday...} Our month will be beyond nuts. We have something almost every single day. I'm not stressing yet, but I'm sure the day will come when Dan walks in from work and I unleash the furry of Heather. Hopefully not, but I'm a realist.

Dan and I were chatting last week in our bedroom and this walked in... {excuse the fuzzy pictures, i was racing to get pictures of this ridiculously cute child...}

This week, I challenge you to get yourself some flowers. Kroger has some for $3.99 that will last for at least a week... Give yourself something special by your kitchen sink. You deserve it.

One more thing... I've never seen such buddies... They are waiting for their daddy... Precious.

1) Laura Mercier Body Creme - My mom gave me a set for Christmas and it has turned in to one of my favorites. Set it by your bed & get all 'lotioned-up' before hitting the hay. Makes you feel like you are pampering yourself...

2) Simple 7 Hummus Chips - Get them at your local store...{Kroger for me!}... They are light and airy, the perfect amount of salt and everything you need to feel like you are cheating on your diet with 30 pieces for only 130 calories.

3) Heaven Is For Real - I should be reading The Hunger Games for my book/movie club, but I can't seem to put this down.

7) My 5k training app - Just search on your phone... It talks to you through your music to know whether you need to be running or walking... Perfection.

8) Pssssssssssst Dry Shampoo - That's right. Sometimes we spray and go greasy.... Get it here.

9) Gilligan & O'Malley from Target {Fluid Knit} - I'm telling you, you won't find anything softer. From pants to 'mo-mo's {as I call them}... It's great comfort wear for an even better price. In all colors too. {Call me Target... I'll endorse you any day.}

10) Weber Marinades - Especially the Black Peppercorn - {Got mine at Kroger!} They take 30 minutes, but if you have it more together then me, the longer the better. They make your meat fantastic. No lie. Get you some cheap steaks, add some peppercorn & boom... you have some amazing tasting steaks. If you don't like it, you crazy.

I've made a decision. I'm going to run a 5k on my 31st birthday... which is, in fact, 109 days away. Should be plenty of time for me to get my running shoes re-laced and my body prepared to hit the pavement. Not sure what has sparked this interest but I thought, at this time in my life, it would be something good to accomplish. Who knows, a 10k or half marathon could be in my future if things go as planned. I'll keep you posted... Day 1 of 8 week training started today... Long way to go until May 10th.

Weekend was lovely... I shared a wonderful Friday night and Saturday with my mom, aunt & cousin. My sweet cousin is getting married in May, so bridesmaid dress shopping was on our agenda. We had a lovely lunch after our shopping escapade at State & Allen Lounge in the young & spicy area of Uptown in Dallas... I can't wait to share such a special day with her and my family. Today brought running, grocery store, lunch, nap and football... Typical Sunday, which was also lovely.

I need to download 200+ pictures... Or else I would have a lot more updates to share with you... More to come.

For now, I'll leave you on this fine Sunday with my sneaky... I just love him.

It's 2012 & we're back!

Hello friends!! Happy 2012. I couldn't be more ready to jump back into my small blogging world and start chatting with you again. How long has it been? Almost two months? Whatever the date is, I'm glad to be back at the computer, enjoying the small things and getting close to feeling 'a step ahead' in the new year.

Well, I'll catch you up on some of the few major 2011 ending events...

The priority, this woman. We lost her 9 days after my last post, exactly 55 days from when I lost my grandfather. Apparently, she had no intention of spending a holiday without her soul mate...

And again... my favorite picture of the two of them. I know this is exactly what they are doing in the clouds.

Next up was a quick {unfortunately sad} Thanksgiving followed by a trip to Abilene, TX... again. There is something odd in going to lay your grandfather to rest and the very next trip you take, you lay your grandmother to rest... A true love story in itself... Yet, ire. In the end, we were ready for Santa, stockings & champagne.

We bounced back as much as we could finishing up this years Heather Holiday Helpers business {I officially have a tax ID...more on that & the updated blog soon} and decorating the house.

Are you still out there? Hello? Bueller?

Well, another delay. And for the hundredth time, I send my dearest apologies. I wish I had a specific reason as to why my blogging this fall has been so behind... But there just isn't one. My life has ranged from working 8+ hours a day on Heather's Holiday Helpers, to cooking for my family & friends, to sitting on a park bench watching my amazing 2 year old feed the ducks, to reading a good book at 11:00 pm or to praying for my grandmother... Sometimes life just isn't as much fun without your 60+ years partner.

As much as I want to tell you about the good, the bad and the hilarious seconds of my day, I just can't seem to find the time. I work desperately to try and get my never-ending list accomplished, but it just doesn't seem to happen. I mean, sometimes playing football outside has to take priority, right? Mason would agree...

I have thought long and hard about this and I have decided to give myself a break from blogging. It isn't fair to you when I don't post as often as I should and with the continuous busy schedule we have ahead, I need to remove this little sector of my life for a while. The goal is to come back in 2012...

I cherish each of you and all the wonderful comments you share about this blog. It means the world to me that our little suburbia life can bring you so much joy and laughter. Truly. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Well, I need to change the name...

Instead of 'Meal Deal Friday'. We're just gonna have 'Meal Deal Days'. Apparently, my life is not quit as standardized as I would hope. Actually, I don't mind the new 'daily adventures'... Last Thursday my brother passed the Texas Bar Exam. From that moment on, we were in constant celebration mode within my family... So blogging late Thursday night was delayed. Yes, 'The Lawyer' is now an official statement.

Found a good one... Finally.

This weekended included, a Heather's Holiday Helpers Bazaar on Friday night, a family day on Saturday, breakfast at 6:00 am with the {mother's best friend} time change on Sunday... Along with laundry, cleaning, dog walks, temper tantrums for popcorn, Halloween decorations packed away, a mall date with a friend, HHH orders accomplished and football. Unfortunately, this weekend also held a funeral for a co-worker of Dan's that lost his new born son to Trisomy 13. {Please pray for their family and God's new angel, Benjamin. And hold your little ones tight...}

This week is busy as usually... a birthday celebration lunch for a friend, school, an aunt visit, bazaar shopping, more HHH orders to accomplish, diet food, hunting trip for the husband, birthday for my sister-in-law and everything in between. Life just gets crazy this time of year, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Please just don't hate me if my turn around for an email is 7 days... HA.

We found out yesterday what my sister/brother-in-law's second baby was.... Hope you didn't pull for the underdog... BLUE AGAIN. Yes, another Hayward/Love boy is on the way in March... That makes 5 grandsons for my mother-in-law. In other words, a basketball team...

I'm sitting in a chair fit for a size 2 body 6 ft from my kiddos bedroom.

You see, we have gone back to our old ways of not liking going to bed without mommy or daddy in the room. For the last few weeks, we have subsided to it; sat in the room patiently waiting for him to close his eyes. Our world as of late, has been busy. Very busy. Weekends at different houses, traveling, late nights in cars which have in turn, jacked up our entire routine... So, we've been patient. However, after 2 nights in a row of having a 1-hour sit time in his room, we have changed our ways.

So, yesterday I started 'seeing mommy' in the next room idea. I turned a chair around, grabbed my computer and looked busy so he understood that staying in the room with him, was no longer an option. We're close. You are fine. Good night my baby.

Hopefully, this will be a quick fix. We'll see... I'll keep you posted... Joys of parenthood. {Love that show.}

Well, so far I have already failed you on a consistent 'Meal Deal Friday' post... My apologies. I hosted a Heather's Holiday Helpers event at my parents house last Thursday and lost track of time... Promise to get better.

Last week was full of activity... along with all of my HHH events, we hit the State Fair of Texas, celebrated our nephews {early} birthday party, cheered on the Rangers and took family photos... Yes, we had lots going on. {We also boo-ed our Sooners. Can't believe they LOST. Moving on...}

It was a crazy week... But we are finally home, relaxed and feeling caught up. After getting back from Abilene, TX {articles on my grandfather here} we celebrated OU's win against Texas. Boomer. I was a very proud Sooner over here... Unfortunately, my little man had a rough morning, so rather then a BBQ and jump house, we settled for puzzles and bed. No matter how we watched the game, it was a great win.

This week I am gearing up for Heather's Holiday Helpers first bazaar! It's a 1-day style bazaar, but I am looking forward to {hopefully} getting more orders and selling all kinds of decorations. First one! I'm kinda nervous... Should be fun though. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Minus the passing of my precious grandfather, we have enjoyed the fall months so far. Here are a few pictures of the wild man to share...

3) The lawyer moved out. He's officially gotten a job and is living in the uptown world of Dallas. Very proud of him... {And yes, he can't make a normal face for a picture.} ALSO... a big congrats to my empty-nester parents! 30 years and finally 'kid-free'... most of the time.

My loving grandfather decided he was ready for the Heavens and left us yesterday morning. The family is packing up and heading to his West Texas town for hugs, tears and prayer. I ask you again... for comfort. Especially for my grandmother...

Hey kids. Happy Sunday. We headed to our home away from home this weekend... Norman, Oklahoma to cheer on my Sooners. Thankfully, we pulled out the win. {It was dodgy there in the beginning.} The wild man stayed with my in-laws who graciously sent pictures throughout the day. He didn't want to leave when we picked him up today. Cutie paaaaatootie.

I have a few links for you today... All random, but all yummy.
1) Chips. I love them. I could eat them all day every day. Here is a link to the healthiest chips for you to buy. Looks like a need to go to the store. Pretty sure my cheese Doritos aren't the healthiest.
2) Tacos. I love to try different kinds of tacos and found this recipe I wanted to forward on. It's a little lengthy, but it would be fun for a Sunday cooking day.

I caved. Bought Mason a new toy. We were looking for our Halloween costume, ended up with a train set.

Am I a bad mom if I put my child in a swim diaper this morning because I was too lazy to walk upstairs? Maybe. I blame the weather. There is a coolness in the air that makes me want to snuggle up on the couch with a diet coke, watch my child play and spend the morning with Matt Lauer, Hoda & Kathie Lee. Love the fall weather.

I realized this morning that it has been a while since I've given you some scoop on Sneaky. {aka: Wild Man, Lovebug...oh and Mason}... Let's see... Where to begin?

-His new favorite morning routine is playing outside. We open the door in the early am to let our puppies out. He thinks we don't notice when he secretly sneaks outside and starts playing with all his toys at around 7:00 am. He laughs hysterical when we come out and say, 'What are you doing out here? Better come in.' His response, 'No way' and then throws his head back in laugher. I throughly enjoy watching him outside in a full diaper from the night before and bed head. Makes me laugh.

-Doesn't matter what he does. Good or bad. From helping with the dishes, to putting all the toys back in their spots or waiting until the VERY last minute to finally follow the rules.. He declares himself a 'good boy'... No matter what.

-He is 98% in height, yet 18% in weight. Lean, fast, running machine. Truly. I can't keep up.

-He is obsessed with his Daddy right now. Mom gets a hug every now and then, but the tears when Daddy leaves in the am breaks my heart. Daddy's boy.

-He loves to cook. Any time I am in the kitchen, he pulls up a chair, stands up and says, 'Me watch'... Then he wants a job. He is a great pancake batter stirrer.

-His favorite show is Mickey Mouse. The hot dog dance can't come soon enough each morning. When you have toddlers, you will learn the hot dog dance. I won't go into the details. You'll get plenty soon.

-He prays every night for our entire family. Knows them by heart and won't go to bed until we say our prayers. Sweet boy.

-When you ask to see his outfit... He strikes a pose. When you ask to see his muscles... He throws his hands up in all his glory.

-He's a caretaker. When someone is upset in the house, he brings them his 'lovie' {night time blanket}. When a baby is crying he is determined that the paci will fix the problem. When someone gets hurt, he immediately brings them a bandaid. Yes, he probably has the biggest heart in the house.

I'm sure there are 800+ more things that he does... but for today... I'm sure I've over done it. He's a trip, a ham and a lover. Can't get much better then that.

Where did the week go? I got a little under-the-weather, used my 'school days' to run around suburbia and lost track of time to say hello to you. It's FRIDAY... Yeah! {Well, 9:00 pm the night before... close enough.} Tomorrow is MOPS. My favorite Friday event. Full-on MOMMYVILLE. Anything and everything you would like to know about moms & their ups/downs. I love every second of it. From the moment we walk in to a homemade breakfast to the amazing speaker to small-group time. I love it. All of it. MOPS. MOPS. MOPS. Moving on...

The fires in Texas are so sad. I'm ready for all that to be DONE. I woke up this week and thought, 'Ewww, I smell fall. Pumpkins! Does someone have a fire in their fireplace?'... Even looked up at chimneys for smoke. Then I remembered. No, it's just the breeze bringing in all the smoke from the fire that is burning up my great state. Dear Jesus, rain please... lots.

To happier news... I'm going to be AN AUNT... AGAIN!!! The 5th baby is coming to the Hayward clan in March. Here is the current breakdown...

1) The eldest... Will... 3.

2) The wildest... Mason... 2.

3) The gigglebox... Brady... About to be the 'new brother'... 2.

4) The sweetest... Little Jack... 11 months.

5) The newbie... Currently in my amazing sister-in-law's belly... We can't wait... Another boy or MAYBE even a GIRL?!?! We're taking bets... I'll let you know November 1st.

Livin in the 'Burbs

It was a miracle that I got out of bed this morning at 6:00 am. I had told myself to get up, get dressed and head to the gym. By the grace of the good Lord, it happened. I enjoyed my morning workout with all the worker bees hitting the gym before the office. It was quiet, calm and I said my morning prayers while sweating on the elliptical. At 7:30 am, I jumped in my car to head home. The sun was out and for half a second, it looked like fall. As I made my way to our neighborhood I felt a new sense of thankfulness when I noticed all the families out and about. They weren't power walking, walking their dog or anything like that... They were walking their kids to school. And not just two or three families, more like fifteen. There they were...back packs, lunch boxes, moms, dads, dogs...heading to our neighborhood elementary school. As I passed, I felt so grateful for where I live. You see, I say Dallas to those 'outsiders' that don't really know the metroplex... But in reality, I live north of Dallas in a little suburbia town. Takes us about 30-40 minutes to get to AA Center to see the Mavs play. And about 200 yards from my house, we have cows.

When we first moved out here, I was 'on the fence' to say the least. They said we would get more 'bang for your buck' out here. Larger house, smaller mortgage. So, we made the move and knew in our hearts that if we wanted to see our spicy, single, downtown-living friends, we would have to go to them. So, we adjusted and got use to our new surroundings. Sooner or later, we started loving it out here.

Things out here are much more personal. The local grocery store checker knows my name AND my son's name. The crossing guard that I pass on my early morning walks knows I won't actually be crossing the street, but just turning left to continue down the block. My dry cleaner gave me his cell number in case I ever needed anything when he was closed. Yes, it is the little things that have helped me grow to love the 'burbs.

Sea Island, Georgia

I've never been to a place where I wanted to pack up all my stuff and move there... This was the place. I recommend it to anyone... An amazing place.

Let's start with our 7:15 am plane ride... Very entertaining.

The 45 minute drive from Jacksonville, Florida to Georgia was easy... Plus we got a nap in. We relaxed that afternoon at the Beach Club waiting to get into our condo. The next day... beach time.

At about 4:00 pm that evening... These yo-yos decided to try and fight the 'high-tide' with their surf boards. Got these pics from our balcony... It was very entertaining to watch... to say the least.

That evening, we headed to another part of the hotel... The Lodge at the Golf Course. It was a beautiful night and the bag pipes were wonderful to listen to. At one point, my dad walked up to him and requested he play a song for the 22 navy seals that had 'come home' that afternoon.

It was a special moment.

The following day brought an interesting drive to Savannah for Paula Dean. {Please picture... Dan driving, Jordan in the center, Mom in the passenger seat, Dad behind Dan, Mason behind Mom and me in the middle... In a Lincoln Town Car. Do you have your visual? Oh, it was an hour and half drive.} The food though, was amazing. Unfortunately, Paula had to work that day... I think she was sad she missed us.

And yes, the fried green tomatoes were awesome...

The next day... more beach.

We headed to The Cloister part of the hotel that evening for drinks & piano... Beautiful, but a little 'over the top' for this Texas family.

From fancy whiskey & wine to good ole Southern Soul BBQ and Coors Light... Amazing food.

On our last full day, Dan decided to rent a kayak for a little bit. Mason couldn't wait to ride the 'boat'... For a 2 year old, he did awesome and loved every second of it.

Even got a quick visit to see Paw Paw in the ocean...

Time to leave... But not without getting a few parting shots. Not a bad view from our balcony. This was the only morning we didn't see dolphins...

...Our summer is coming to an end...

We are back and sitting at home... and it's lovely. We had an amazing vacation with my family, as well as a great side trip for a dear friends wedding. Pics and details to come... There are 600+ to attend to and I just don't feel like tackling that at this moment in time. I have better random thoughts to address...

#1 - Advice to first time pregnancy or new moms... Do your baby book. I am the genius momma who has put off that ridiculously easy task and now... {at age 2}... I'm having to go back and remember all the 'write-them-down-when-they-happen' memories. Thank goodness my camera makes note of the date or else I would be up a creek...

#2 - I need a maid. I appreciate my husband's thoughts pertaining to this idea, 'You are at home... should be plenty of time to clean up'... Truly. I do. And I'm thankful to be at home. But when my child would rather steal the toilet brush faster then a cheetah, run through the house dripping the chemicals every where, I would appreciate a maid more. I'm just saying... Wait, I'm just dreaming... Pretty sure that won't be happening any time soon.

#3 - I am ready for September 6th. Do you know why this day is important? Let me try to explain it in a clear, non-confusing matter... FIRST DAY OF PRE-SCHOOL. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the only one that feels this way. Mason has started asking me every single morning when he wakes up... 'School?' No baby, just me and you, again today. Day number 672 that we get to run errands together or watch Elmo or anything else that gets us to 5:00 o'clock... indoors. This God Forsaken HEAT has really put a damper on the outdoor activities lately. I should be a size 2 with the amount I have sweat this summer... Yes. Bring on pre-school... both mom and son need it.

Once a week blogs don't work... I know, I know. Our life is about to start slowing down. I promise. Then we will get back to Top 10's, 2 & 2's, etc...etc...etc... We have one more family trip this summer and then we will be planted in the 'burbs with free weekends. Now, don't get me wrong... It's been an incredible summer. We have made wonderful memories, it's just flown by faster then you can blink!

It's off the coast of Georgia and it should be so relaxing. We'll be there for 6 days with my family. We are also taking a special side trip to here...

Yes, there is a good chance I'll be eating fried green tomatoes with this lady...

...I've become the mother of a 2 year old. Yes, my sweet Sneaky was born yesterday...2 years ago...

We had a fun day with Daddy home from work... Pancakes for breakfasts, the Ft. Worth Zoo, Cantina Loredo lunch, then cupcakes and burgers with the Encinias family.

We are having a small get together this weekend to celebrate with family and friends... I'll post pictures next week... Promise.

I wish I had some fabulous, amazing blog for you today... Unfortunately, I don't. But, I will catch you up on our last few weeks and where we are in our world right now.

Currently, we have Dan's cousin, Sarah staying with us. She got here last week and has an internship at Fox Sports this summer. In her few months of being in Dallas {she has stayed with other family members} she has interviewed lots of Rangers players as well as helped with the Mavs Parade after they won the championship! She's done some great things and got to celebrate her 23rd birthday with us last night in the 'burbs... Good times!! I'm sure she was missing her young buddies at some point... I can only hang so long. Here is Sarah, Dan & Dan's sister, Kelly... Yes, she is always this tan.

Mason has FINALLY learned to enjoy his big boy room... When did we start this, first of June? Ugh, been a process, but we are very thankful a dim light seems to be shining at the end of the tunnel. I did, remember that I owe you 'big boy room' pictures. Here is where we are... I'm currently searching for something vintage, re-do style for above the beds... Oh and don't be jealous of my roller shades, we need it dark in there. Orange and white drapes are on the list...

It has been, what, MONTHS since I have done a 2 & 2 on this fabulous Friday... How 'bout it?

Two things I could live without this week:
1) Honestly. There are millions of things going on in the world today and this couple {or lack there of} is taking priority. Vomit. He's 100 and you are 12, let's get some perspective.

2) You knew this was coming. I DO NOT CARE. Get out of the public eye and go away.

Two {+ one more} things I couldn't live without this week:
1) GOOD FOR THEM. I can't believe things like this are STILL going on in our world. Stay strong ladies.

2) Yes please. I will take this show when all of television fails me in the summer...

{+ one more} - Can someone please invite me to this? I love both the couple and her!

Side notes:
1) Will you watch this? I'm on the fence... I say that, I'm sure I'll end up with a little popcorn, wine and my snuggie watching...

Somedays I don't think I know anything about parenting. Is that normal? Hope so...

The big boy room switch has been, well, interesting. VERY. We have learned how quickly 'no napping' can occur, how it can take 2 hours to finally get him to fall asleep... etc... etc... How in the world do we do this? Do we fall asleep in the room with him? Do we just shut the doors and say 'night'? Why in the world am I having such trouble?! Advice please.

There is my 'rant for today. Big boy room switch is tiresome. I will move on to more 'positive polly' mode...

Big Boy & Behind

Well, after 500 hours of painting, Mason's big boy room is {almost} finished...

Maybe not almost... No wall art, no drapes, no bookshelves, nada... 2 beds, a rug, a vintage bar cart and half the bedding. As much as it KILLS ME to only have just these, I have to get over it. Other parents have warned me to 'go slow' when transferring to the big bed. The more goodies in the room, the harder the transfer. However, this will be a fun project for me over the next few months. I need a chest, I need wall lamps, pictures, and more DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS. We'll get there... I promise to keep you updated on the process. {And how big boy transfer goes. We're back in business...

Hi gang! I'm sure you have been desperately waiting for my return, right? I kid, I kid... Either way, I'm glad to be back to reality and to have some consistency for a while.

It was a great beach trip with Dan's side of the family. Lots of laughs, beach, pool, food and wine. The kiddos LOVED hanging out, which was precious. Here are some 7+ hour car ride pics and a few beach pics. I haven't had 5 minutes to download all the camera pictures, but once I do, I'll try to send them your way...

Please notice the above muscle shirt on my 22 month old. Makes me laugh.

Anyhoooooo... The current situation is the wild man {aka: THE MONKEY}. He is climbing out of his crib. Now, let me back up. This started about a month ago. We had major lessons on how 'we stay in our bed until mom or dad comes to get you.' It worked. For about a week. Since then, it is up and over every morning laying at the door for us to come up and get him. Sweet baby. But, we have made the decision that it is time for the big bed. This week has been a mad dash of painting red walls to grey {brutal}, buying some twin beds, mattresses, bedding, etc, etc, etc... We are shooting for this weekend to be 'the big switch'... I'll keep you posted.

Is that what you have been saying? I know, I know... Let me just explain.

Our May is I.N.S.A.N.E. No, no, seriously.

We have way too much going on and frankly, I can't keep up. Especially, doing my-oh-so-favorite-thing... blogging.

So, let's begin with 1,000 pictures to help catch you up on my crazy life...

3) The graduates... My brother and my cousin graduated this past weekend. A trip to Ft. Worth for a Masters diploma and a trip to Oklahoma City for a Law degree... Eventful and full of laughs.

Now, don't get too excited. Next on the agenda comes this weekend. It starts with a trip to Abilene, Texas to see my grandparents followed by a week long beach trip with all the Hayward crew. Yes, you read it right. Another trip to the beach! I'm looking forward to spending time with all my favorite nephews and their parents.

So, yet again... I leave you. For that, I apologize... but it must be done. I will try to catch some free time next week from the beach. Here's hoping your May is much calmer then mine...

FRIENDS. Forgive me. It's been a whirlwind of a few days and I am just now finding some minutes to say hello.

Second, the beach trip was amazing. Dan and I had an awesome trip. Prettiest beach I have ever seen... I'll post pictures soon. The problem is the charger for my camera is currently missing, so until I can charge it there is unfortunately, no uploading of pictures... So, that's cool. Way to be organized Heather.

You will have to live with just one for now.

Since the vacation there has been parties, family and Mother's Day...

Now, tomorrow... {DRUM ROLL}... is the B-I-G 30. I can't believe I am crossing over to the 3's...

There is not too much planned minus a lunch, pool and some Mexican food. I decided the beach was all I needed to help me in crossing over to the adult side...

But it's been a crazy couple of days... Let's start with Easter... These little bunnies all played together on Saturday. There was a train ride, dancing, laughing and temper-tantrums... But we loved spending the morning with our favorite cousins.

Unfortunately, it went down hill from there. Why, you ask? Food poisoning. Thankfully, I was the only one that lost 6 pounds in 24 hours. I would not wish that kind of drama on to my worst enemy. Terrible. I am just now feeling back to normal and enjoying the finer foods again. {aka: Diet Coke.} However, the newest issue... My sicky son. He has a bad cough. We are heading back to the doctor again today in the hopes of getting actual meds to help ALL of us sleep better. {Key word: ALL.} You see... I'm leaving town on Saturday without him and there will be no relaxing vacation for this mommy knowing my favorite child on the planet is not feeling well. Please keep your fingers crossed and prayers flowing that things start to calm down. I need to regain some sanity before I leave...

And yes... I can't believe I am leaving this precious one... But all mommies & daddies around the world need a breather.

Thankfully, he has some of the best grandmas around... I'm sure he will miss me greatly as he gets spoiled beyond belief.

Well kids, I'm signing off for the next 7 days to...1) cure my son, 2) pack...& watch the Royal Wedding at 5:00 am CST and 3) read a book in the sand with cold beer next to me.

I have to say I'm often guilty of having a case of the "what if's" when it comes to our casa. It's easy to dream about what we'd do with our homes if we had the money, time, or access, but it's much more productive to focus on what we do in fact love about the place we call home. It goes without saying that the people in my home are its truest treasures, but I have a few favorite inanimate objects, too. These things make a room, and thus our house, just a little bit happier. We inherited a set of French Provençal furniture from my husband's grandparents. We split up the set, and I painted the bureau a glammy, high-gloss turquoise. It sits in our three year-old's room as a nightstand between the twin beds. I think it's probably my favorite piece in the house, simply because I did the heavy lifting on the paint job. I can't get enough of it!

We've been fortunate to pick up odds 'n ends from family, and probably the best "score" was a set of Chinese Chippendale chairs. They had been used as patio furniture, but with a fresh coat of glossy orange, paired with the iconic Imperial Trellis fabric, they've become the stars of our living room.

I certainly can't say we are serious art collectors, but we do try to buy original art whenever we travel. I personally feel owning original, not necessarily expensive, art is key to bringing your personality into a space. Art is very intuitive and personal, and I think the pieces we own speak a lot about who we are. My latest purchase is by Michelle Armas, an artist out of Atlanta who's work I absolutely flip over. This is one of her small paintings, but I have high hopes of acquiring one of her larger works. They just make my heart sing!

They say lighting is key for ambiance and mood, and I couldn't agree more. Lighting in a home needs to serve a function, but certainly shouldn't neglect form. I recently bought a vintage ginger jar lamp off Ebay, and feel like a won the lamp lottery. It's the perfect shade of turquoise (are you seeing a pattern, here?!), and paired with a sophisticated, black shade, it makes a for a nice focal point in an otherwise blah spot.

Little things.

There are some days I look in the mirror and wonder who am I? I see myself, but then all the sudden I fade and I can only see the wall behind me. It's like I come in to focus for half a second and then fade away...What happened to that skinny career oriented college graduate? Where did she go?

Early in my new-parenting role I struggled constantly with 'approval'... Couldn't breast feed, one strike against me. Couldn't get my 3 month old to sleep at night, another strike. Couldn't get my baby weight off, the strike that seemed to never go away. It was constant. My husband would come home and I would be a total mess. Tears would fill me eyes as I sat there in my pjs trying to explain to him that 'I couldn't do this. I wasn't fit.' He would always bring me back up and by the next morning, I was ready to roll again in this new found 'job'... However, by 5:00, well... you know. It was like the roller coaster I couldn't get off of. What was happening!?

After a total melt down one night, I told me husband, maybe I should go back to work. My self worth had seem to be diminished and unfortunately, I couldn't see my 6 month old full-filling me in my every day needs. His advice, 'Whatever you want.' But looked at me in a way that I will never forget. He slowly and calmly said...{knowing that I was on the brick of a nervous breakdown}... "You chose this life. You choose to be a stay-at-home-mom. No one is asking you to do it, no one is judging you on days that are hard, no one but yourself." Hmmm, did he have a point? Kinda. But what was my point? "Well, it is really hard when no one tells you, 'good job.' No one is patting me on the back for making sure he doesn't crack his head open. No one is giving me a raise because he ate great and I got him down perfectly for both naps. No one. Unfortunately, Mason can't talk."

Boom.

That was it. I had found the deep, dark problem that was hiding within me. My career oriented self had turned into a mushy-tell-me-I-rule new mom and I was desperate to become the best in the class. I could plan a meeting of 500 people, but the fact that I couldn't stop my 6 month old from crying had turned me in to a low self-esteem drama queen.

From that day froward, I changed my perspective. I thought, "What in the hell is my problem? Get it together." Yes, I could plan your wedding from start to finish, I could organize your house or your meeting to a T... But could you get my crazy-non-sleeping baby down for a nap? Probably not. Why? Because I was his only momma.

I started revolving my life with Mason around the little things. Rather then getting overwhelmed that the house wasn't cleaned, dinner wasn't on the table, my bed wasn't made or that I hadn't even gotten dressed for the day... I decided to change my to-do list to little things. A little thing, in fact, turned into emptying the dishwasher or cleaning up toys or making a doctors appointment. If I got crazy and accomplished a big thing, it would be making the bed, having dinner on the stove or even watering the plants. On a PERFECT day, it all got done. Because, Lord knows... I still have my days of craziness.

So, for all you mommies out there, try to remember the little things. We can't do it all. We can try and try, but sometimes, McDonalds works just fine for dinner.

Hey everyone!! Here are the favorite things in my house...

1. Chairs:

These chairs spent the majority of their lifetime in the boot room of my Grandma's western wear store. They were once a lovely shade of turquoise pleather, and many a shopper tried his boots on in these chairs. I sanded them down, spray painted them white and had them re-covered. I love that I can remember running through the store and jumping on these chairs as a little girl.

2. Harbor Gray paint color:

Crazy to have a paint color on your top ten list? Maybe, but when it covers two-thirds of your home, you better love it! I think it's the perfect gray. Shout out to MLHP ... as she helped me with the re-do of my fireplace and dining rooms!

3. Carrera Marble:

I love it now, but I will love it even more once it is finally installed. We are in the middle of a master bath re-do, and these beauties will someday grace the bathroom and shower floor. Cannot wait for someday to be here.

4. Sunburst mirror:

I know, I know. All of the design blogs are calling for the death of the sunburst mirror. I don't care, I still think they are the shizz. Since I could not justify spending close to 300 bones on the ones I loved, I made mine.

5. Jonathan Adler Muse candle:

I love me some JA, but sadly cannot afford much of the fabulousness that he has to offer. While in New York, I stopped in at his shop and walked - and drooled - through. This candle caught my eye and had to come home with me. It smells wonderful and after the candle is gone, you're left with a beautiful pottery piece. :)

6. Kindle

This little gadget and I spend lots of quality time together. Lots. If you love to read, this is a MUST have. The hubster gave it to my for my birthday last year. Best. gift. ever.

7. Little bowls:

My treasure hunting friend, Lindsey, knows all too well that I can never resist a stack of little dishes or bowls. We often have the conversation in an antique store about how back in the day, entertaining must have been difficult (but fun) because EVERYTHING had it's own, specific dish. Tiny butter pat dishes, deviled egg platters, relish trays where everything had a specific spot.....we see that stuff all of the time and marvel what the table settings must have been like back then. Well, these little dishes were my Grandmas and I love them. They are small, gold rimmed and have a random pattern with butterflies and strawberries. Grandma used to keep them on her nightstand for her jewelry. Was she ahead of her time or what?

8. Wedding picture:

My husband and I got married on the beach in Mexico and this picture is one of my favorites. I think it captures the moment perfectly, just the two of us with the sounds and sights of God's creation around us. Perfect.

9. Federal Glass white glasses:

I found these gems while out treasure hunting with good friends. I fell in love with the white glass and gold game birds. After researching online after bringing them home, I discovered that they were made by a company called Federal Glass during the depression era. Wondering where they have been since then makes me love them even more!

10. Family:

And finally, what truly makes this house our home, these guys right here. :) Without them, it's only a house.

Weekend Wrap Up

Morning! Well, it's Tuesday and my Sneaky has a cold. No school today, so we're having a 'cave day' and we'll probably make our way to McDonalds for some nuggets & apple before nap time... Poor guy.

Our weekend was fun, busy and relaxing. First, we finished our bulletin board. It has been 'in process' for about 6 months now. After painting the kitchen and 'cleaning things out' I decided I didn't want to get crazy on the refrigerator with to-dos, pictures, school calendars, etc... I wanted ONE place to pack it all in and yet enjoy Sneaky's art projects.

I chose this wall and these boards from good ole Hobby Lobby. They came with their own sticky tape, which worked out perfectly...

Plus this wall isn't in the middle of the living room/kitchen, so it blends in well. {Hey, you think I need to fix that Napa Doors picture...Nice ripple.}

I picked up this rope style crown molding. $12 at Lowes and they cut it to measurement for me.

Spray painted white... Then got crazy with the silver. Not sure what I was thinking, but in the end...It didn't seem to matter.

Little glue and an over-night wait to make sure it was all set...

By the morning, we were set and by the afternoon... It was in FULL bulletin board mode.

Just love it.

The rest of the weekend included plant buying, movie watching and an Arboretum visit with our cousins...

10 Things in My House that I Love... {By my favorite Kentucky Girl!}

1. The most treasured possession in my home is our wedding photo, which hangs in the Dining Room.

2. I also love our wedding album. We have been married for almost 5 years, but I still have the album displayed on our coffee table.

3. The framed picture of our niece, Carsyn, is a recent gift from my brother and SIL. This is one of my most cherished gifts.

4. I love the view from our house, especially in the Fall. We live in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, which is beautiful in the Fall.

5. The Outoor Fireplace...one of our newest home additions and definitely one of our favorites! We use it all the time.

6. My dining room hutch houses many of my most treasured items. I LOVE china and crystal and believe every woman on Earth should have a complete set of fine china.

7. I love our kitchen table. This is where we eat every night and talk about everything.

8. We love our new patio. As you can see, we used it up until the first snow.

9. Our Bed.....one of my favorite pastimes is sleep, so a comfortable bed is a must!

10. Right now, I am loving the early signs of Spring! I always get excited when I see the daylilies starting to bloom.

20 months & Security in Scripture

Mason man FINALLY got his 18 month check-up crossed off yesterday... We are only 2 months behind. Sickness created a few scheduling problems, but we were excited to finally get in.

Stats:
Weight= 24 lbs & 6 oz...19% SKINNY.
Height= 34.5 inches...84% TALL.
Head= 19 inches...52% NORMAL.

He is my lean, long wild machine... :)

My girl friend at MOPS made this amazing French Toast Casserole for our group last Friday... It was to die for. I begged for the recipe and wanted to share it with you all. {Thanks Kari!}

Overnight French Toast Casserole

1/2 C Butter
12 slices White Bread
1 C Brown Sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon or Baking Spice
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
5 eggs
1 1/2 c Milk
-Melt margarine & pour in a 9X13 pan (I melt it in a measuring cup in the microwave)
-Mix together brown sugar & cinnamon (or baking spice)
-Wisk eggs, milk & vanilla together
-Layer bottom of pan with half the bread
-Sprinkle half brown sugar mix over the bread
-Layer second half of bread
-Pour egg mixture over all then sprinkle remaining brown sugar
-Cover & refrigerate overnight
-In the morning, cover with tinfoil and bake at 350 for 30 minutes
-Uncover and bake 15 more minutes (should be browned and set)

Wow! Thank you Heather for having me guest blog! Little background- I just moved to Waco, TX with my brand new husband and we bought an older home that we decided to “update” and let me just say, it is a process. So I find joy and pleasure right now in small victories…like pillows. So here are my favorite 10 things that can be found in my house…

1. My Bookshelf. We have some fabulous built-ins in the living room and at first I was overwhelmed with what to put in them…but I recently filled them up with books that we used in our wedding as centerpieces and pictures from the wedding. It means so much because the encyclopedias belonged to my grandparents and the little ‘k’ bookend, my dad welded the stands on. So it is sentimental, vintage and I love it!

2. My pillows – yes I was serious. I love these pillows. I am semi-obsessed with iKat and I actually got these pillows were actually a mistake. I thought they were cobalt blue…and if you look real close they kinda are, but they come out more purple/blue and I think I love them even more!

3. My light fixture. It is modern, classic and perfect! The hubs bought it for me for Valentine’s Day…he knows the way to my heart.

4. My bathroom floor. So a little secret – this is actually a backsplash tile, but we loved it and I think it looks great on the floor! (it was cheaper too)

5. Kitty Couric. A don’t think any home is complete without a bold personality. Luckily, there was room for one more at our house and Kitty is just that. I asked her if we could dye her fur to complement my color pallet, but she declined.

6. Our view. So Waco, TX – we may not have a Crate & Barrel or a Nordstrom’s or an Anthropologie BUT there are some up sides. We could afford a great home with views of the lake. Our street is so peaceful and waking up and walking out on our balcony to see this is worth all the online shopping.

7. Ann Carrington Prints. I like TV and the hubs and I found this artist on one of the reality tv shows we watch. I took it a step further and became obsessed. She does textural one of a kind pieces that are just beautiful. I found out she was selling prints of her work so I ordered one for the husband when he graduated law school. Turns out, the artist was so nice and due to a small customs issue, she sent me two! I love them. They will hang in the dining room, just as soon as I remember to take them to get framed…

8. My Wustof knives. This one is weird, but they make a 'not so fabulous cook,' feel legit. I love them.

9. My Pier One floor lamp. This was the first ‘real’ piece of furniture (not from IKEA) I bought when I moved into my first apartment by myself. It is simple and reminds me of that time in my life.

10. In an effort for full disclosure…I thought I needed to keep it real. This is truly my favorite thing in my home. My Direct TV DVR. True love.

It's midnight. I can't sleep. Not sure why... At 6:00 pm when my husband walked in the door, I was practically asleep on the floor I was so darn tired. Now, WIDE awake. I hate that. Anyway... I read a little of my Real Simple from April. I have January, February and March to catch up on, but I'm feeling more ahead of the game now. Oh wait. I just looked. It is from 2009. Nice. Moving on...

I've been catching up on my Kate Middleton. She is now my most favorite human being on the planet. {Well, that's pushing it... But you know what I mean}... A class act. All the way. I can't wait to watch their wedding. Live. Me. A glass of champagne. A crumpet. 3:00 am. YES. I just can't imagine what their life is like. William and Kate. In there house, windows down, security at every entrance. We've never really even seen them kiss... Only just a hug or an arm cuddle here and there. What do they do at 8:00 pm each night? Have some wine? Watch The Office? I mean, really... What? I can only assume OTHER people are taking over the wedding plans... so that takes that off the list. I just can't imagine. They are so private, yet... EVERYWHERE. It's crazy to me. Don't get me wrong, Dan's a fine prince for me, but to be marrying the future KING?? I just can't imagine it... I know it is going to be BEATEN into our brains during the month of April, so I will spare anymore discussion about it... but I'm still just blown away by the entire thing. Either way... I just love them.

Afternoon LMS readers! Thanks for all the emails, comments, texts and calls about the kitchen. I greatly appreciate it. You are all the best! Well, it's Monday. I'm ready for the week to fly on by... It will put me closer to Good Friday, which means, wine. I kid, I kid... {kinda}. Turns out a few of my besties needed some help with their spring wreaths. They asked if Heather's Holiday Helpers might be interested in branching out from the normal 'Christmas theme'. I was up for the challenge. Kitchen & Quote 1

Well, my kitchen is bare. Who knew all my crap could be taken out and thrown in a somewhat orderly fashion in the dining room. Painters are coming at 8:00am. YEAH.

Let me back up.... From the moment we stepped foot into this house, we loved it. We loved the floor plan, the area, the size... it was perfect for just the two of us out here in the burbs. But there was one thing. The kitchen. It was your typical builder kitchen and for the last 4 years, I have hated it. {Well, hate is a strong word...} Either way, the husband FINALLY crossed over to my side and agreed a few house 'fix-ups' for the spring would be a good idea. Step 1) Paint our kitchen white.... Step 2) Butcher block and hardware added.... Step 3) New appliances.... Step 4) New kitchen sink.... Step 5) Making all the colors come together {aka: decorating}. I wish I could say that in the next 5 days all of these steps would be happening but I would CLEARLY be mistaken. You see, my husband runs this suburbia palace, so he sets the rules. Step 1 & 2 are on the books in the next two weeks... The other steps will come 'in time' - My husbands favorite line.

On to something else... This week, each day, I'm posting a quote to live by. It is random, yes, I know... But sometimes random helps get us through the day. So, for Monday... Enjoy.

I have hardly turned off the tv... Sad about this Japan situation. Keep them in your prayers... Is the wind in Dallas today from all this? I don't know anything about weather... But you could fall over if you stepped outside. Anyway.... Keep me posted.

My friend, Jana, sent me a link to some great ideas on lacquer trays... I hadn't ever thought about doing it, but once I started searching pictures... I loved the idea. I bought two of these and added them to my bedroom.

There are all kinds... You could spend $225 on a Jonathan Adler one {if you can, you should}... or you can copy me at Target... which I first copied from Jana... Thank you Jana!!!! {If she had a blog, I would send each of you her way... She is a top career woman, so her priorities are MUCH better then mine.} SIDE NOTE: 1) It's a good day if the bed is made. 2) I couldn't be a mom without Toddler 411 and 3) This happened during my picture taking...

But not from our house guest this weekend... Miss Tobie herself... My in-laws baby...

Off to tackle my kitchen... Cleaning out after years and years of storing things is going to make for an interesting weekend. Have a good one people...

But I don't. It has been a crazy week and I am just now coming up for air. I have many things to discuss but tonight won't be the night. Too sleepy. Top three things on the list for 'soon'... My kitchen. It is about to be painted. My Lent sacrifice. 40 days with no booze or Facebook. Lastly, my son woke from his nap today with a horrible case of strider/croup... AGAIN. Yes. Tonight, I'm tired. More to come this weekend... I promise. Big LMS hugs to each of you...

I'm sure I've told you about my secret cupcake place, right? If not... Here it is. And by the way, they make some red velvet CUP CAKE BALLS that are TO DIE FOR. Sometimes regular cake balls can be too heavy. These go above and beyond and are the perfect dessert. I can't say it enough... They are wonderful. Order some. And no, I'm not an investor.
